It is not uncommon for independent game developers, after working hard for several months and often spending thousands of their own dollars, to find the fruits of their labor pirated. It’s a very demoralizing experience for some. What’s even worse, though, are the pirates who sell the work as their own.
From time-to-time, indie game developers work together to get pirate sites shut down, especially those that are selling the games. Now, one has taken this further and turned it into an ongoing effort. He has created the website stampoutpiracy.com with the complementary goals of shutting down web sites that pirate indie games and educating the average consumer about piracy.
If you ever find a site that distributes pirated games, whether yours is listed or not, do all indies a favor and report it to Stamp Out Piracy. Link to the site from your blog or company page, so your readers/customers can educate themselves. Let’s not let Andreas’ initiative go to waste.
