I never did get around to posting details about the sessions I attended on Day 2 of last year’s Korea Games Conference. I was just Googling around, looking for any info about this year’s conference (none I can find yet) when I found that the slides from the Day 2 keynote are available for download in PDF format.
The speech was given by Neil Trevett, president of the Khronos Group and Vice President of NVIDIA’s Embedded Content Group. The topic was the OpenKODE collection of APIs, which together aim to ease development of multimedia applications on mobile platforms. It’s a really great effort. While the entire speech was engaging, the best part for me came when he demoed a user interface using the API on some next gen mobile hardware from NVIDIA. Imagine Beryl or Vista’s Aero Glass on your mobile phone. With stunning performance. He had a couple of videos, a game, and several utility apps running at the same time.
If you are interested in developing games for mobile platforms, OpenKODE is certainly something you should check out. It’s a comprehensive API suite that handles accelerate 2D, 3D and 2D vector graphics, enhanced audio, and streaming media. The slides give details on how it all fits together and should certainly whet your appetite.

Hi:
Pleased to “meet†you. I see updates on your blog posts from time to time.
We’d be very happy to answer any questions you may on OpenKODE.
Are you by chance attending SIGGRAPH this year?
Best regards,
Elizabeth Riegel
Khronos Executive Director

I’m not much into mobile development, but I would be interested in seeing an implementation of OpenKODE on the big three PC platforms. This would make it much easier to target some games to both PC and mobile. Though, when I asked Mr. Trevett about it during the Q&A, he didn’t seem too enthused about the idea and indicated that there were no plans for such an implementation by Khronos. Thanks, though

No, though I would like to.
