The Google Code site has been available for a while. Google has released some of their own internal projects there as Open Source. Now, they have a project hosting service. For no charge, you can create your own Subversion repository there. I’ve found no documentation on the service, but when you create a project it offers a handful of license options to select from. That indicates that your project must be Open Source to be hosted.
If you were thinking of hosting at SourceForge, Tigris, BerliOS, or another free service, you might consider Google now. I don’t know what their plans for it are as far as automatic builds, downloads, or integration with Google Pages. Considering Google’s track record though, I wouldn’t be surprised if this turns out to be the best solution on the net for Open Source project hosting. One caveat: you need a GMail account to use the service.
